Kit/Kittic is a Japan-based digital artist who has quickly amassed a large audience for her incredible work. She has vast experience in character design and concept art. Notably, Kit mainly focuses on the female form, with most of her illustrations showcasing sassy and robust female personas in various styles. She’s created loads of original characters, but you will also come across a few popular culture characters like wonder woman.

Working mainly in Photoshop, Kit’s illustrations utilize intense colors to match her characters’ boldness. There’s something unmistakably fresh and vibrant about Kit’s digital palette. Her polished works and unique style are in a class of their own, and they draw the viewer in and always surprise in the most beautiful ways.

One exceptional characteristic of Kit’s work in character design is how she consolidates modern design with her characters. While there’s something delightful about the illustrations, the main attraction lies within the unyielding power the female paintings radiate. Kit also creates renderings of male characters, which are undeniably and equally as good. Kit’s portfolio is well-executed as she showcases each illustration beautifully while keeping them understated. Her art is sure to set the heart racing.

Follow Kit on her socials for her dynamism and individualism, which are all well worth checking out.

ARTIST INTERVIEW:

Q. Which city, state or country do you currently live in?

A. I live in Nara prefecture, Japan. It is a very peaceful and calm place.

Q. What are your main art applications? *

A. I'm using Adobe Photoshop.

Q. What are the other media and applications you are using?

A. Wacom pen tablet.

Q. What is your favorite reference material? Magazines, comics, books, websites, etc ...

A. I rarely draw while looking at reference materials and motifs other than ready-made designs, and usually rely on the emotions and inspiration at that time to create images.

I try to input sensory information to my body, such as touching the actual object or picking up an intriguing object.

Although it is not a reference material for art, it is fascinating to see objects with calculated beauty and functional beauty such as archaeological sites.

Q. Are there any artistic weaknesses that you are actively working on to improve?

A. It may be closer to hope than a weak point, but the current drawing method (2D Sculpting) can quickly draw 3D information on a flat surface, and it can be useful for the way of looking at things and thinking, so in the future I want more people to know this drawing method.

Q. What made you want to become an artist?

A. I've been interested in creating since I was a child, and by winning awards in a small painting contest, I became a painter myself. Then, an art teacher recommended me to go on the path of painting, and I went on to study as a designer in order to acquire specialized skills, but the paintings I draw there are one of the means to live, and honestly there. I didn't really feel the future. After many years, I discovered the current art style, and at the same time I started my personal activities at deviantart, and I think it was when I became aware of myself as an artist.

Q. What do you like to draw and draw? Characters, monsters, girls, future scenes, etc.

A. As you can see, the motif drawn as a Kit is mainly "female". Women have not only the beauty of their form, but also the elements that men do not have, such as "mysterious" and "Pretty, Lovely", and they have the flexibility to handle any situation. Is the reason for choosing. Also, as a theme, I like something with a strong fantasy element.

Q. What kind of artistic achievement do you think you will achieve in the next 5 to 10 years?

A. In the last 10 years, we have released more than 600 works of art, and now we have started commercializing original characters and writing novels in order to expand the world view of Kit. A few years from now, Kittic (Kit's original brand) will collaborate with various industries and hope to leave many works in the world.

Q. Who are your favorite concept artists and illustrators that inspire you?

A. I respect all artists who have their own unique taste, whether they are famous or not. If you force it, it is Japan's leading animator "Tomonori Kogawa". The expressive characters he draws have the power to speak to people. I grew up with many of his works.

Q. Did you have any specialized training? If so, which school or class did you attend? If not, what process did you use to achieve your level of artistic talent?

A. I have acquired basic skills at The Art club and Vocational design school. Also, because my father was a Buddha sculptor and a calligrapher, I think that his sensibility was naturally refined, probably because he had seen works of art closely since he was a child. .. I used to work as a modeling artist, and that technique is still useful in 2D Sculpting.

Q. What is some interesting personal information about yourself that you can share with our readers?

A. You can see the activity as Kit on these four sites.

deviantart https://www.deviantart.com/kit-kit-kit

Artstation https://www.artstation.com/kitkitkit

It may not be possible to write a reply to everyone, but I would appreciate it if you could give us your impressions.

Q. What is one of the advices you give to an ambitious artist like you? What I learned from my travel experience.

A. The most important thing to improve a picture is to know the "shape" of various motifs. The shape you learned as a sense becomes your own material and can be converted into various images in your brain.

At first glance, the act of drawing a picture is "technology", but without the "impulse" that one wants to draw and the "thought" that one wants to entertain the viewer, the work becomes inorganic. I will end up. To prevent this, it is very important to observe the world widely without sticking to one thing and to experience various "experiences" so that you can express what you feel through your five senses with pictures instead of words.

Q. Artistic achievement? This can include jobs, projects, awards, praise, and more. Whatever you consider important in your art career. Include everything you want to include, including links to process the video.

A. I always have doubts about my talent. It's not that I'm not confident, but because I'm confident that it's still evolving. If you are in such an underdeveloped position, I don't think you need a proud position or honor. I have been involved in many major titles in my main business, but I do not want to count them as a result of Artist Kit because they are given work.

From now on, it will be my greatest praise to be accepted by many people as one of the influential artists.
